Job Description
Hours: Average of 12 hours per week, evenings and weekends Wed - Sun on a monthly rotating shift pattern. Shifts will likely be between 5 - 7 hours at a time.
Contract: This is a zero-hours contract, meaning we’ll offer work as and when needed - this will likely average out around 12 hours per week. While we can’t guarantee a set number of hours, we’ll do our best to offer shifts that fit both our needs and your availability.
Pay: £13 per hour (This is a flat rate across all positions, inc. organising/finance/bar work/cleaning)
Role description
As a core member of the bar team you’ll play a key role in maintaining Gut Level as a venue, social and creative space for the angels, weirdos, party freakz and queers of Sheffield.
Bar Team Key Holders have overall responsibility for managing the space during the shift. The majority of the work is standard bar service, e.g. serving customers, cleaning, tidying and generally making sure the space looks, smells and sounds good.
Key holders also lead on some of the most important tasks that ensure our legal compliance, such as taking decibel readings for our noise management plan, membership checks on the door, opening up and closing the space, and making sure the setup and pack down tick lists are followed.
Another key responsibility for a key holder is to be a safer space contact for members in the space, dealing with any live incidents in-line with safer space procedures. We are a Good Night Out accredited space and will provide training to everyone starting to build confidence and identify the support networks we have in place for this work.
Responsibilities
Key contact for members/promoters/performers on the night
Opening / Locking-up - ensuring all tasks on lists provided are completed
Set up and pack down for workshops, events and gigs
Making and serving drinks
Cleaning / prepping the space before, during and after the space is open to members.
Checking memberships
Safer space contact and checks throughout events
Legal compliance checks
Working with the wider bar team to uphold the safer space policy and membership agreement
Active as part of the “Bar Team Working Group” to look for ways to improve the bar and bar operations at Gut Level including monthly bar meetings
Experience
Previous bar experience is essential for a Key Holder
Experience/knowledge of the basics of live sound is beneficial but not essential
Working at Gut Level
We are an independent not-for-profit arts organisation that has been built from the ground up. We are a collective of party heads who, over time, have become deadly serious about maintaining Gut Level as an alternative social space for the long-term benefit of our communities in Sheffield. The current bar team is a super lovely bunch! We have an enjoyable and supportive work environment, but there is hard graft involved, especially when running busy club nights - we say this now as we’re looking for someone motivated, pro-active and keen to contribute to the ongoing mission.
Our bar team is currently majority white so we’re particularly encouraging applications from BPoC people.
Process
The deadline for applications is Friday the 25th of April.
Strong applications will be invited to complete a paid trial shift during a club event - we feel this is the best way for you to get a feel for working at the space and for us to see your experience in action.
We are looking for 3 new team members :)
