Club Rules
Gut Level Club Rules January 2024
1. Membership
1.1. Gut Level Club membership is open for anyone to join, providing they are over the age of 18.
1.2. Club membership applicants must provide their full name, address, year of birth, gender identity and
ethnicity which will be kept on file in accordance with GDPR regulations. All demographic data on members is stored on a secure server and only used to better understand our community engagement and to support funding applications/reporting.
1.3. Club membership is restricted to individuals over 18 years of age and members will be asked to confirm their age when applying for a membership. ID will be requested upon entry to the premises.
1.4. All Club memberships are available on an annual or monthly rolling basis.
1.5. All Club memberships are subject to an annual, or monthly fee.
1.6. The Club reserves the right to revoke any memberships from individuals whose conduct is in breach
of Club rules or policies.
2. Conduct of Members/guests
2.1. The following acts are considered misconduct and will not be tolerated on Gut Level Club premises:
the use of prohibited substances, physical and verbal abuse, harassment, intimidation, acts of hate, abusive, aggressive or threatening behaviour of any kind.
2.2. All members are required to agree to the Club’s code of conduct (Membership Agreement) via an online sign up form before entering the premises.
2.3. The Club reserves the right to ask guests or Club members to leave the premises if they behave contrary to the Club's rules and policies.
2.4. Possible sanctions for misconduct include (but are not limited to): verbal warnings, immediate ejection from premises, temporary bans, termination of membership.
2.5. If a complaint is made against a member whose actions have been seen to constitute misconduct, this will be addressed with the individual at the time and then, where necessary, followed up by a meeting held by the Club at a later date. Once the situation has been further examined the Club will decide on an appropriate response, the form of which may include one or more of the sanctions outlined in section 2.4.
2.6. In the event that a termination of membership is considered justifiable, an extraordinary meeting consisting of individuals involved and Club representatives as appropriate will be held.
2.7. Any individual whose membership is terminated will not be able to re-apply for Club membership or be admitted as a guest unless the termination is reviewed by the Club.
2.8. Club members and guests are requested to enter and leave the premises quietly so as to avoid unnecessary disturbance to local residents/businesses.
3. Disputes
3.1. In the event of a dispute between Club members that is not covered by these rules, a meeting will be
called internally between the Board of Directors, all involved parties and a mediating party to discuss the matter and see if a resolution can be reached.
3.2. If such a dispute cannot be resolved internally, it may be referred to an independent arbitrator, the appointment of whom is mutually acceptable to all parties.
4. Guests
4.1. Members of the Gut Level Club are permitted to introduce guests to the premises for events that focus on sober community activity, these will typically be held on Tuesdays. No Club member can admit more than two guests per event.
4.2. Members must be present throughout the period their guest(s) are on the premises.
4.3. Club members are to ensure that both themselves and their guest(s) are signed in at the start of each respective visit.
4.4. Members introducing guests are responsible for the conduct of their guest for the duration of their visit and must ensure that Club rules and policies are abided by at all times.
4.5. Members may face sanctions should their guest be found in violation of the Club’s rules and/or policies.
4.6. No person whose membership has been previously terminated under the rules of the Club shall at any time be introduced as a guest.
4.7. Performers and their entourage appearing at events arranged by the collective need not be members of the Club or be signed in as guests. The conduct of performers and their entourage is the responsibility of the event supervisor for the duration of their visit.
4.8. Members of the Gut Level Club are not permitted to introduce guests to the premises on days where alcohol is sold.
5. Structure
Gut Level’s structure is split into four areas:
1. Club Members: all members of the Gut Level Club
2. “The Collective”, A subcommittee of Gut Level members who meet monthly, made up of representatives from core organising groups spanning LGBTQ+, QTIPOC, SW, Women & gender minority communities.
3. The Bar Committee: The Bar Team responsible for bar operation in conjunction with the Board of Directors. .
4. Board of Directors: five individuals with responsibility for business administration (inc policies & compliance), finance, community coordination, facilities management, marketing and communications.
6. General Meetings
6.1. An AGM must be held annually within six months of the end of the financial year (August)
6.2. The business of an Annual General Meeting must include:
6.2.1. the receipt of accounts, balance sheet and financial report to the board of directors
6.2.2. the appointment of an auditor (if required)
6.2.3. the application of profits
6.3. Calling a General Meeting
6.3.1. General Meetings can be convened by the Club Secretary at the request of the Board of Directors.
6.3.2. Club members must be given 7 days’ notice prior to the meeting, this can be given via written notice, delivered by hand, posted to Club members’ addresses or sent via email.
6.3.3. The Board of Directors must instruct the Club Secretary to call a general meeting within a month upon receipt of a written request signed by 1/10 of the Club membership or 100 Club members.
6.3.4. No business shall be transacted at a general meeting unless a quorum of members is attained. The Quorum is 20 members. This may be amended by an extraordinary resolution.
7. Purchase of Alcohol
7.1. The purchase for the Club and the supply by the Club of intoxicating liquor shall be at the discretion of the Gut Level Collective and restricted to individuals over the age of 18.
7.2. The Gut Level Collective shall arrange for the purchase of intoxicating liquors on behalf of the Club and for the supply thereof to members at prices to be determined by the Club.
7.3. The Gut Level Collective shall keep an account of all purchases and receipts and shall at every Annual General Meeting, present a record, report and financial statement for the preceding year.
7.4. The Gut Level Collective shall in no way be restricted in freedom of purchase. Gut Level Club Rules January 2024
8. Drugs
8.1. The Gut Level Club operates a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal drug use.
8.2. No member or guest shall purchase, use, possess, sell or distribute illegal drugs on the premises.
8.3. Members proven to have taken part in any of the above will immediately have their membership
terminated.
9. Applications of profit
9.1. Any profits of the Club shall be applied to the following areas:
9.2. A general reserve for the continuation and development of the Club
9.3. Making payment for social or community purposes within the community served by the Club
9.4. Improving working conditions, salaries and benefits for the bar and operations team
