Kegstand returns for a bank holiday downtempo special, with an extra late finish of 2am due to the late lie in we can all have on Monday.
Usual slow-mo dancing lined up, with a very special guest joining us for this one: Lezure's Sloan! Purveyor of all things chuggy and weird, he's a mega DJ and party starter and we're very glad to welcome him to the fray for this one.
The usual Kegstand residents will all (probably) be in attendance too, with Betty, Lancaster Bomber, and Malus all throwing themselves in to the mix in the later hours, while Joi L.F will be joined by his brother Dennis Roswell for a 3 hour warmup from 6pm before Sloan takes the reins.
Free entry from 6-9pm to tempt down the early dancers, limited to 30 spots (25%ish of the capacity), and Gut Level has a beautiful terrace so even if it's sunny there's no excuse not to get down early! After 9pm it'll be £5 on the door.
About the DJs
Sloan (@sloan_of_lezure)
Resident DJ and promoter of Glasgow’s long running and nomadic party Lezure, Sloan has been been a staple at venues such as Glasgow’s La Cheetah Club, Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s and Berlin’s Salon zur Wilden Renate. A deep digger with a penchant for Motor City indebted sounds, his sets map out reference points from either side of the Atlantic while remaining distinctly groove focused. Recently in the capital he’s a common fixture at the Alien Communications parties at The Lion and Lamb and The Cause as well as playing Tola in Peckham for Heels and Souls.
He heads up Streams of Thought, manifested as a monthly show on 1020 Radio and label, freshly minted by his own “Joyless State” EP, garnering airplay from BBC Music Introducing as well as a remix from Scottish techno pedigree Slam. With more releases in the pipeline as well as rising stock in some of the cities best clubs, this is someone worth keeping an eye on.
Betty (@be__ttyyy)
Resident for Bramalama Bar alongside Sheffield mainstay Bruce Linnemann, Betty's a relatively new name on the scene but has been cementing her name amongst the city's DJ's in the last year and a half or so. A penchant for many slow styles, varying from R&B to warpy breakbeat, her sets are riotous fun each and every time, and presented with a deft ear that belies her years.
Dennis Roswell (@dennisroswell) b2b Joi L.F (@joi.lo_freq)
Kegstand head honcho Joi L.F joins his brother behind the decks for a 3hr warmup on this bank holiday special. Between the two of them they run the parties Apricot Ballroom (Joi) and Control (Dennis), and have also recently started a new radio show together on Kitchen Radio called Radiodrome where they delve in to the harder punk areas of their collections. For this though they'll be keeping it slow, with hip-hop, post-punk, slo-mo house and electro all on the cards.
Lancaster Bomber (@lancasterbomber_uk)
One of the minds behind Grub Records, and a keen purveyor of synth-pop, Harry's steadily built his reputation around Sheffield as one of the city's best DJs. Making up 1/2 of the Wow & Flutter duo, he's also a keen producer/editor under his Lancaster Bomber alias, pumping out chuggy disco, hip-hop, and synth-pop edits that work magic on the floor. His marathon 8hr+ sets at after parties over the years have become the stuff of local legend, come see what the fuss is about!
Malus (@ed_malus)
Another of the Grub Records team, Ed's been one of the hands behind many important musical/culturual projects over the last few years, and is an unassuming wizard behind the decks. A phenomenal selector that rarely puts himself out there in the headline slots, his sets are regularly mind-blowing and a testament to considered selection.
