Gut Level’s Response to Rafaël Rozendaal - Permanent Distraction
—————————————————
Session 1: 4 - 5PM
Drone Yoga
To start the takeover, take a moment to connect with your inner sun - your heart centre. 45 minutes of classical Hatha postures that flow from one to another by synchronizing breath with movement allowing stillness to be found in motion, presented alongside a generative drone composition built using modular synthesisers.
This session is recommended for people with some yoga experience, there will be some mats provided however, if you have your own please bring it with you.
Session 2: 5.15 - 6.15PM
Live Explorations
Two 30 minute performances from Northern artists taking their sounds to the Gallery space.
Prangers
Prangers are a Rochadale based duet who create experimental music with whatever is within their means. They embody the DIY spirit of Gut Level by building their own instruments. Their sound is self-described as ‘spoken word and found sound assemblage’, with a process of creating music that is reliant on making sounds in the physical and then recording these and looping them digitally. They will be joined by percussionist Daniel Watson who they are currently collaborating with. Below are links to their bandcamp and other online releases.
Jorg Kuning
Co-founder of Bakk Heia Records and a resident of the Manchester/Salford based party of the same name, Jorg Kuning’s music draws as much from the collective euphoria of the dance as his expansive surroundings in the Welsh valleys. His live sets pulsate with a driving, essential life force, the unique combination of digital and analogue synthesis is often playful, tender and deep. Warm basslines undulate beneath melodic ideas which seem to grow and expand as quickly as they diminish; this fluidity of creation lends itself perfectly to Jorg’s live sets which flow with organic power. It is music built for dark rooms and tender hearts.
Session 3: 6.30 - 8PM
FLAW x Working Them’s Club Collective Collaborative B2B
For the final session of the takeover, our sister groups, FLAW Collective and Working Them’s Club will be hosting a collaborative back to back DJ set.
Each person will have 10 minutes to share sounds in response to Rafaeel Rozendaal’s Permanent Distraction exhibition using CDJ’s. The group will flow through a total of nine b2b’s over the session. This style is a development of FLAW Collective’s slower listening lockdown sessions, Tune[in], where people responded to a chosen theme with audio pieces. However, for this event Gut Level are excited that they can (finally!) host an IRL audio collaboration.
FLAW x WTC hosts an open deck social every 2nd Thursday of the month at DINA. This social is for anyone from a marginalised gender or LGBTQ+ identity who would like to learn DJ skills, share music & hang out with like-minded people in a welcoming space.
FLAW is a collective for marginalised genders aiming to create a space to share skills, access equipment, collaborate and support each other.
Working Them’s Club is an open collective for LGBTQ+ people who are interested in building a queer electronic music community in Sheffield. Our aim is to provide a space for skill sharing, equipment access and organising!
