Join the Community

A subscription to one of our membership options is required to attend the space, our events and workshops.

There are a few different reasons why we operate as a members club:

Finances

Gut Level is a not-for-profit members community that relies on membership payments to cover our bills and keep the organisation running.  By signing up to be a member you are directly supporting grassroots, queer & freaky cultural activity to exist within the Sheffield!

Community

Gut Level is a space run by and for the community - we hold regular members meetings to get feedback and steer from members on activity, policies and other bits.

Safer Space

Gut Level is an inclusive space that puts the needs and experience of LGBTQI+ folk, women and gender minorities at the centre of what we do. Providing a safer space for social and cultural activities is one of our key aims and our membership policy helps us to achieve this.

Anyone over 18 can sign-up as a Gut Level member. Everyone who signs up needs to read through the membership agreement and agree to what it says. The membership agreement is based around care and respect for each other. Anyone acting in opposition to the agreement will risk their membership being suspended or cancelled.

Types of Membership

We have three types of membership to chose from, options are tiered, based on what you can afford, or would like to contribute :)

Option 1: Angel

A monthly payment of either £10, £15 or £20.

The Angel membership tier is a supporter tier for folk who visit Gut Level regularly and want to contribute a little bit more towards maintaining our freaky and wholesome grassroots queer space within the city. This membership option is ultimately what keeps the space operating, with money from your membership payments going towards paying our bills and covering our core staffing costs. Without Angels, the business model for the Chapel Walk space becomes a lot more risky, so there are a number of benefits that come with this level of support.

As an Angel, you’ll get:

  • 10% discount at the Gut Level Bar

  • Access to all Gut Level funded workshops for free

  • Co-working three days a week

  • The ability to request use of the space for your own community activity

  • The deep satisfaction of directly supporting grassroots, queer-inclusive cultural activity within the city

Option 2: Friend with Benefits

A monthly payment of either £4, £6, £8 or £10.

The Friend with Benefits membership tier is a more affordable way to contribute financially to the community, helping us maintain stability and security without relying on external funding. Similar to the Angel tier, this membership is an essential part of our financial model. As fixed monthly income in helps us to ensure we can cover costs and continuing to deliver grassroots activity within the city.

As a FWB, you’ll get:

  • Access to all Gut Level funded workshops for free

  • The ability to request use of the space for your own community activity

  • The deep satisfaction of directly supporting grassroots, queer-inclusive cultural activity within the city

Option 3: Standard Membership

An annual payment of either £2, £4 or £6.

If you’re not signed up as an Angel or Friend with Benefits, then you must have standard membership to attend our events or workshops. This is in place to make sure that everyone who joins the community has read our membership agreement and understands our aims, ethos and approach. Having this system in place helps to keep our events as safe and comfortable as possible for marginalised genders and queer people within the community.

A few notes on data

The information that you provide in this form is completely confidential and will be stored securely. You can view our data processing agreement here.

You’ll notice that we’ve included some optional fields at the bottom of each sign up form which will allow us to track and report on the demographics of the community. This information is particularly useful when applying for funding to sustain and advance activity at the space. It also allows us to make targeted efforts to improve activity for under-represented groups. However, we recognise that many people are (justifiably) cautious of sharing personal information, so please do not feel obliged to give these details if you’re not comfortable with that. It’s your call completely :)
